The Folk Rock band has also been deeply influenced by the play "Much Ado About Nothing," written by the famous writer William Shakespeare. The Line from their opening track Sigh No More "Serve God love me and mend..." is taken from the Shakespearean play.
“You can rip off Shakespeare all you like; no lawyer's going to call you up on that one,” Marcus Mumford explains.
The Folk Rock Band is clearly inspired by other writers. They are sometimes even referred as the Bookshop Band. Marcus Mumford takes literary inspirations for the bands songs from William Shakespeare, John Steinbeck, John Wallace etc. "Mumford...[says] that nearly half the songs on the band's upcoming debut, Sigh No More, are inspired by authors."Taken from a Rick Pearson Interview.
Mumford and Sons also recently did a project with Folk Singer Laura Marling and also a nine-member group of Rajasthani musicians. The E.P. was titled the Dharohar Project and was recorded in India. The E.P. featured 4 tracks that switch between Mumford & Sons, Marling and the Rajasthani musicians.
‘Dharohar’ is actually a Sanskrit word meaning “legacy”, which ties into their mission and philosophy that “…music can overcome differences and create true unity” http://predictablyme.com/2011/02/11/mumford-sons-laura-marling-dharohar-project-ep/
"The music is such a brilliant and unusual combination of styles that it’s hard to describe. But let it suffice to say that I feel confident that you’ll love this EP by what can only be described as a British Super-trio." taken from http://predictablyme.com/2011/02/11/mumford-sons-laura-marling-dharohar-project-ep/
