Although he explored many different genres, he is famous for initially starting out with Folk Music. Bob Dylan has also been deeply inspired by Woody Guthrie.

Bob Dylan sang many songs about U.S. civil rights and Anti-war movements. He has "incorporated a variety of political [and] social influences" into his music. His lyrics had obviously "appealed hugely to the then burgeoning counterculture."
